Pest control - How we do it without harmful chemicals

One of the downsides of living in an apartment is no matter how clean you keep it, if your neighbors are nasty, roaches are bound to find their way to your place too. We had been at our new place for 2 months before they started their invasion. Maybe 2 sightings everyday which is unacceptable especially with a newborn.  Sprays were causing breathing problems and weren't effective, sometimes they wouldn't be phased at all... very annoying.  Not to mention we had concerns about the baby's health, spraying in such a small apt.

After plenty of research we found a solution under $15 (we already had most of the ingredients) that really works! I'm excited because wifey is happy and we don't worry about chemicals being used around lil man, AND I just like making stuff.

Here is what you'll need, the first 3 items are the active ingredients in killing the lil mofos:

1. Diatomaceous Earth - get food grade DE on amazon for $7 and you can use it for a billion other reasons too.
2. Borax - you can find 20 Mule Team in the laundry aisle for $4.
3. Baking Soda - its like 58 cents for a box, the cheapest ingredient.
The next 3 ingredients are the bait and delivery:
4. Egg white - you know how to separate the yolk from the clear fluid of an egg right? $2 for a small carton of eggs, you only need one though.
5. Sugar - they looove sugar $2 for a small bag.
6. Aluminum foil - $2 for a small roll.

Here's how you make all these things work for you:

1. Mix all of the dry ingredients in a bowl. I mixed about a tablespoon of each together. Less DE and more sugar than the baking soda and borax.
2. Add in the egg white and mix thoroughly.
3. Roll out a sheet of aluminum foil about a foot long and bend about 2 inches of the edges up like a bowl.
4. Pour your mixture of destruction into the aluminum bowl.
5. Throw it in the oven on 150 degrees or so for 45 minutes or until the mixture has hardened.
6. Cut out small 1"- 2" squares with a pair of scissors and send your lil troops into battle in the corners of your kitchen and bathrooms.

The very next morning we found a dead roach in the middle of the kitchen.  That night two more struggling to make it, they couldn't even run up the wall without falling.  We found that the bait most taken was by the dish washer, faulty building construction. Grr.  But that's been the pattern day and night, dead or dying pests that we sweep up and no harmful chemicals left behind. Try it and I hope you have the same success.
