During the first presidential debate of 2012, Romney exclaimed, "I
like PBS. I love Big Bird. ... But I'm not going to keep on spending
money on things to borrow money from China to pay for it."
"Thank goodness somebody is
finally getting tough on Big Bird," Obama said at the Denver rally. "We
didn't know that Big Bird was driving the federal deficit." Someone in
the crowd shouted, "And Elmo!" "Elmo too?" Obama said with a smile.
