12:58 PM  ,

Links:

This 23 year-old artist records everything in a studio that overlooks the NYC skyline.  I would describe the flavor as nautical aesthetic as you can probably tell by the coverart.  Maxwell Demon has a website and you can also become a facebook fan for more updates, events and pictures!  Also be on the look out for EP coming out this summer... so go like on facebook so you will know when it's here!

Hope you enjoyed Maxwell Demon's latest track "Tears"!

iPhone VS Android

The iPhone VS Android battle

The battle is between Apple's closed development approach that has stringent guidelines for developers and Google's open development approach which is less restricting. It is also a battle between Apple-loyalty in which customers are more brand-conscious vs the freedom of choice you get from android devices. The iPhone VS Android discussion will be around forever. The iPhone VS Android battle will not be easily determined because each side has its own pros and cons that cancel the other out. They both make calls and make it easy for users to access the internet but the biggest iPhone VS Android difference is price! The Android devices can do what iPhones can do plus more for less!

Should you book a DJ or a Band for your event?

1:59 PM

Whether you are having a graduation party, wedding or corporate event, one question always comes up: Should we get a DJ or a live band to perform?  I recommend taking the size of the venue and your budget into consideration.  If you are going to have the event outside, usually you will have plenty of room for a live band to set up and perform.  Indoor events, with confined space, will do better with a DJ the playing music and requests.  If you have the resources and the space, I would hire both!  The DJ would play in-between the band's performances and keep the mood going.  This also adds variety in music options as sometimes people want to hear the original version of a classic song instead of a cover.   Looking at your budget, DJs are usually less expensive than a live band because you only have to pay for one person and their assistant at the most.

DJ Enclave is a producer and a disc jokey who was born with the name Kameron. He has listened to electronic music since Basshunter first came out with LOL in the early 2000s and has loved this genre since then. He began producing in 2006 and with a lack of success initially, switched over to DJing. After much time listening to many artists and gained much inspiration from such groups as Bassnectar, Kill the Noise, Jack Beats, and many other electronic artists, Enclave began to produce again in his dorm on Long Island. Even though he hopes to be a doctor some day, he'll do anything to perform in front of a large crowd and it is his dream.

How to: Get paid to do Cover Songs

7:35 PM

First, let's start off with an example: This cover was #1 most viewed/shared in US youtube trends 02/25

This is a cover by Neoclubber and they have the song available for download on iTunes.  How did they do a cover song and get listed on iTunes?  The answer is: They got the proper licensing!  That's it, no highly-paid attorney (well what attorney isn't), no mysterious behind the scenes magic, no hiding the song from the original artist and publisher -  they simply got the proper licensing and have legal permission to distribute or sell a set number of copies.  So, Neoclubber is now getting paid to do a cover song!
Usually for cover songs, you want to seek what's called a Mechanical license, which basically allows you to use part of a song (for example the beat or lyrics), add your own creative spin on it and distribute it.  There have been many breakthroughs making the process easier for you get licensed.  From Wikipedia, "In the United States of America, most mechanical licenses are obtained through the Harry Fox Agency. Other commercial agencies such as RightsFlow (via the Limelight online mechanical license form utility) ..."
Did you know that you can not legally pass out a free CD with an instrumental from a copyrighted song and your lyrics?  Just because you are not getting a profit, the CD still contains someone else's work and you need proper licensing to distribute it.
If all else fails, you may want you get one of those high-power attorneys.  Hope this helps ;) Clear ANY cover song in minutes at SongClearance.com. Get Started Now!

Independent Music Promotions - Your Band Is a Virus

8:15 AM

If you are an indie artist you need all the promo you can get.  The problem is that promoting is expensive! Websites are costly to start and maintain, radio ads cost an arm, leg and two teeth, and magazines will only get you noticed if you purchase a full page (or if your audience reads that section in the back filled with random ads for things your mother warned you about).
Ok, Rod, so what is your solution besides handing out paper flyers on a street corner??  I suggest the services at www.independentmusicpromotions.com. They will publish you on their high-traffic music blog and post your pics and videos and stuff for all the world to see.  They write their posts like an interview, which brings your audience in closer to get to know you, not just what you sound like.
They also have a book that is filled with info from years in the biz to help you get your band off and running with cheap marketing tips and info the insiders hide from you.  The book is called "Your Band Is A Virus" and you can check that out here: www.yourbandisavirus.com.
