OLD POST but still juicy lol. See what Im doing now here.
Let me keep this brief, I don't know how long this post will stay up...
I recently got involved with the network marketing company called Wakeupnow a few months ago. In this business, you make money by getting people to like and buy your products and services and they can also join you as a partner so they can make money too.
It's VERY easy for someone to just write off an opportunity to change their lives by saying, that's just another pyramid scheme. It's also just as easy for a new rep to get discouraged after hearing that a bunch of times. So let me expose the truth for you.
What about the idea that the people "at the top" make all the money and you will eventually run out of people to talk to? I'll admit, there are some bummy network marketing companies out there with compensation plans that only benefit the people with the largest organizations. However, Wakeupnow is a company that starts paying high-end residuals even at the beginning. You can even make more than the person that brought you in if you build a bigger team. And since you only need a handful of people on your team to start to enjoy a profit, you don't need to worry about running out of people!
Just because you make money when products are sold, doesn't make the company a pyramid scheme. In that case, a lot of industries are in trouble... from insurance agents to real estate agents...
Pyramid schemes are real though, don't be mistaken. They are unsustainable business models that are typically disguised as investment funds or business opportunities. The scammers usually promise a "return" on your money, but the thing is... your money is never invested in any stock or commodity.... it is instead used to pay a "return" to those that came in before you.
Eventually new money coming in can't keep up with the money that's owed and people lose all the money they had initially invested. This is what you seen on shows like "American Greed"
So how can you tell if a company is legit or not?
Red-flags that may signal Pyramid Schemes:
1. The company's leadership team was previously involved in a scheme.
2. There are no customers, only reps.
3. You have to buy something to get paid.
4. There is no customer support hotline or contact info.
5. The price of the products doesn't meet the value (severely over-priced)
Wakeupnow is not an investment fund and you are never guaranteed a return of your money because you aren't never investing it, you are simply paying for a membership that is designed to save you money in the long run and you are paid based on the volume of business that you can bring to the company at the same time. You are not even required to buy a membership, you just need to meet a certain sales volume.
Definitely not a pyramid scheme...
So why the stigma? Why the negativity?
Well, for one... the media has a huge impact on the public's opinion about business opportunities and network marketing. I recently watched a show on tv similar to "Shark Tank" that described network marketing as a scam and totally humiliated the representative, for all the world to see. No one likes to be ostracized and belittled but that's exactly what the world saw. Now, I don't think this guy was the most skilled at explaining the business and his company isn't whats hot right now, but this shows how media portrays the industry of network marketing, even though the industry brings in more money than music, video games and the movie industry combined.

The National Pyramid Scheme |
In Wakeupnow, we are paid a percentage of product sales that occur in our organization. This goes down many levels deep and your organization but will NOT look like a pyramid, more like a tree with branches and leaves.
You can make more than the person you joined under if you work harder and build a larger organization. About 80% of the profit that the company makes is paid back out to the distributors and we are paid based on the volume that our organization brings in. Customers can even sign up for free and when they buy things at discount, this helps your volume too!
Wakeupnow is also part of the DSA for credibility, the DSA takes almost a year to get listed under and they hold Direct selling companies to a very high quality standard of business ethics.
