Iron Man 3 follows the arc of the comic Extremis: Geneticist Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) invents Extremis nanotechnology which can transform people into organic cyborg killing machines. Iron Man’s greatest enemy Mandarin (Ben Kingsley), a scientific genius and superhumanly skilled martial artist, uses this deadly weapon to distroy Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) personal life. Forced to fight back, Iron Man must drastically alter his suit, as well as his own DNA in order to win.
